چکیده

The congenital orbital varix is a form of venous malformation of the orbit resulting in intermittent proptosis in a child, adolescent, or young adult [1, 2]. Vision is seldom affected, although attempts at surgical removal may alter vision [3]. Skull films may demonstrate orbital enlargement or phleboliths within the orbit [4]. Orbital venography and carotid angiography have previously proved useful in the study of vascular abnormalities of the orbit [5-8]. More recently , computed tomography (CT) has been used to further differentiate vascular lesions [9, 10]. We describe a simple CT technique to help demonstrate that an orb ital mass is a vari x.

Orbital varix diagnosed by color Doppler flow imaging--case report.

A 66-year-old male presented with an angiographically occult orbital varix. Angiography and phlebography failed to demonstrate the lesion. Computed tomography angiography showed the varix, but not the vascular flow. Color Doppler flow imaging clearly demonstrated the well-defined varix with slow flow velocity, as well as the precise anatomical location. We recommend color Doppler flow imaging a...

Colour Doppler imaging in the demonstration of an orbital varix.

Colour Doppler imaging (CDI) is a recent development in ultrasonography. It allows simultaneous two-dimensional structural imaging and Doppler evaluation of blood flow. Quantitative information on flow velocity is obtained by pulsed Doppler spectral analysis, the colour information being used to choose the vessel of interest. Using this technique the authors examined a patient with an orbital v...

Orbital ultrasonography for diagnosis and evaluation of retrobulbar vascular disorders

Diagnostic and differential diagnostic of orbital diseases are considered to be one of the most difficult problems in ophthalmology because most orbital pathologies display the same signs and symptoms. Condition of orbital tissues can be evaluated using three different radiology imaging techniques: A/B-scan ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. A/B-scan ultrasono...

3-D computed tomography reconstruction: another tool to teach anatomy in the veterinary colleges

This letter underpins the use of three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) reconstruction as an aid to teach veterinary anatomy. Cases were presented to students in order to observe normal and clinically abnormal patients. The images provided excellent details of relevant structures and could serve as a tool for teaching anatomy. Many sources describe different options to enhance anatomical...

Comparison of Diagnostic Accuracy of Cone Beam Computed Tomography and Digital Radiography for Detection of Vertical Root Fractures with and without Gutta Percha

Objective: Diagnosis of vertical root fractures (VRFs) is critical in endodontics which most of the times occurs in endodontically treated teeth with root canal fillings such as gutta percha. Despite Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has significantly enhanced image quality compared to digital radiography (DR) which aid the diagnosis, artifacts has remained as a problem in VRF detection . ...
